Minimum requirements for the energy performance of buildings in Malta have now been set for separate building elements - floors, windows, walls and roofs. The document gives indications as to how one can meet these requirements including the:
- use of insulation in roofs;
- use of double or better glazing in windows;
- limiting the size of apertures;
- storing rainwater and re-using it in flushing of toilets and irrigation and
- use of direct solar heating for hot water, and the use of photovoltaic cells plus wind turbines that is encouraged, but not mandatory.A copy of a document, in pdf format, entitled "Technical Guidance Document F - Conservation of Fuel, Energy and Natural Resources" is available to download from here.
